Mogul is the result of cycles of crossing and selection for
resistance using the variety Borung and an aphid resistant parent.
Mogul is an outstanding performer on heavy textured neutral and
alkaline soils; Mogul is ideal for hay or grazing and either as a ley
between crops or in a pasture phase. Flowering occurs
approximately 105 days after germination. Mogul has moderate
hard seed levels, therefore it has the capacity to regenerate well
both in the year immediately after seed set or after up to a threeyear
cropping break. Mogul has excellent quality characteristics,
with a high leaf to stem ratio. It also is prostrate in early growth
with a high degree of primary and secondary branching. Together
these features make Mogul an excellent cultivar for both grazing
and hay production.
