Koala is the third cultivar of sub clover spp.brachycalycinum to be released in Australia. Koala was bred by
Dr.S.Morgner and results from a cross between Clare and a Spanish introduction. Koala is later flowering
then Clare 2 and is more hard seeded. Koala has the highest level of resistance of all cultivars in Rhizoctonia
damping off and also has some resistance to Fusarium damping off and to subterranean clover Mottle virus.
Koala has superior spring growth giving higher season long herbage production and outstanding hay
production. Koala offers good levels of hardseededness for better persistence and a highly nutritious feed.
Koala is well suited to intensive pasture operations with its ability to regenerate after hard grazing, long
term persistence and its ability to produce high dry matter yields for grazing or fodder conservation in
medium to high rainfall areas.
